Tamworth resident farmers, Ethan and Amy Sager, presents a public reading of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight!
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, is a classic English medieval poem which masterfully weaves the changing of the seasons into a beautiful natural setting. The book is a solidly Christian story. It’s about pagan traditions testing Christian values. The juxtaposition of nature vs Christian righteousness makes for a perfect rural tale to share in the holiday season.
The story kicks off during Christmas feast in King Arthur’s court. The Green Knight storms into the court on his green horse and presents himself to the king. He offers a challenge to his bravest man. One of them is to strike his best blow against the Green Knight and then in a year and a day, he will seek out his green chapel and receive a blow himself.
Who but brave Sir Gawain could accept this folly?
